Our Story
Mr. & Mrs. Horton have six children of their own. They still wanted to give back, so they started their journey off to become foster parents in 2023. This has been a dream and a desire of theirs since they were young adults. They couldn’t let their dream or desire go, upon becoming foster parents. In 2023 they realized that the need never went away, as a matter of fact it had only gotten worse.
Mr. & Mrs. Horton question how would they would provide the necessities for a quick placement child or children, as Jeff was the main provider for the home. Given that good people have big hearts, they continue to open their homes to care for these children. Foster parents are also recorded to be over worked and stressed to the max. They take on so many different roles. Placements are being paid the bare minimum to take care of the children, buy them the necessities, and to buy all new things for the child. While they are trying to run their own homes and take care of their own children.
Therefore, the children are still not having the necessities that they need in the beginning of the placement. The necessities such as; child restraints for younger children, clothing and shoes, school supplies, baby/infant items, hygiene products, and just down to the bare necessities that you would want your child to have. A lot of these children come into care wearing just the clothes that were on their backs. This is where we are determined to not only make a difference, but to show the families that they can have a peace of mind. Along with that they can show these children that love, hope, and kindness still exists in the world. Mr. & Mrs. Horton doesn’t want another family to worry about-HOW?
We would like to be able to help families help the child through the five different stages that they go through. Which are Hope, fear, anger, depression, and difference. The foster parents need to focus on what matters most. Thus was born The Horton Charity. Mr. & Mrs. Horton believe that this is where The Horton Foundation will make the biggest impact.
About our founders Mr. & Mrs. Horton:
Jeff was award to the State of Tennessee at nine years old. He was placed into care with just the clothing that was on his back, along with one pair of pants and a T-shirt. He was in and out of foster homes till he was Twelve, where he was finally adopted. Jeff knows first hand of what it's like living in foster homes or care, with being moved from one placement to another. Having to start over each time with a new family placement, along with a new school, and community. With each placement some belongings were left behind for one reason or another.
Rebecca was born weighting in at a pound and five ounces, due to her mother getting deathly sick and having to deliver her four months early. She was placed with her grandparents due to the fact that her bio mother was no longer able to care for herself, let alone a newborn child. Her grandparents quickly moved to the adoption process, which Rebecca is very grateful and blessed that they took on the roles of being mom and dad. If those roles hadn’t been for-filled then she would’ve been placed in the foster care system as well.
About our children:
We have six children together, (five girls and one boy). They are the ages of sixteen to eight. Which they are from grade school to high school. They are along beside us as we go on this journey. They have set out to be helpers in the newest “fad” in any necessities that the children need. Also will be bringing us new inventory to our website shop. They are excited as they get to give to children that are in need, they all have huge hearts.We have just recently added a set of twins to our home. While they are adjusting, we are too. It’s not been easy but we are making it work. We are excited, joyful and blessed for this opportunity. God sure has blessed us! So, we have a total of six children together and are fostering two, (Maybe taking on two more)!
